Round Bar Weight Formula and Derivation
The formula W = D² × L / 162 is derived from the basic weight calculation: Weight = Volume × Density. For a round bar, the cross-sectional area = π × D² / 4, where D is in mm. Convert to meters: D/1000. Volume per meter = π × (D/1000)² / 4 m³. Weight per meter = Volume × Density = π × D² × 7850 / (4 × 10⁶) = D² × 6165 / 10⁶ = D² / 162.2. Rounded to D² / 162 for practical use.
